Pasture Management & Ragwort Removal
It is important to undertake effective pasture management in order to provide the best environment for your horse. The late spring and early summer can be particularly challenging times as this period is the prime growing season when ragwort can really prosper. Ragwort is a poisonous weed which should be completely eliminated.
If you identify ragwort in your pasture then it must be removed to prevent your horse eating it and to ensure that it doesn’t spread. Take care to remove the plants and all of the roots otherwise the ragwort will regrow. It is easier to pull up the plants when the soil is damp or wet. You will find the ragwort forks you need to help you with this task in the Equi Supermarket range. Ragwort causes serious liver damage in horses and consuming even small amounts of ragwort over an extended period can result in serious illness or death. The plants remain poisonous after they have been pulled up and are then more palatable to horses and so dead plant matter should be removed from the pasture.
The Equi supermarket range also features ragwort killer and seed which will help you to create excellent grazing for your horse. You can produce a safe and nutritious pasture for your horse but you should always remain vigilant regarding ragwort growth.
