MAH® stands for Magnesium-L-aspartate-hydrochloride, a pharmaceutical-grade magnesium compound developed by German company Verla-Pharm since 1949. It is considered to have superior bioavailability compared to many standard magnesium forms such as magnesium oxide, meaning more of the magnesium is absorbed and utilised by the horse’s body where it is needed.

How do I feed it and how much?

Loading dose: 40ml per 100kg bodyweight, 4 times daily (e.g. a 500kg horse receives 90ml 4 times a day) until an improvement is seen. Maintenance dose: once per day, 5ml per 100kg bodyweight. The amount can be adjusted for particularly excitable horses or erratic behaviour, and may be increased for a few days prior to especially stressful situations. The product must be put on feed immediately before feeding and should not enter the respiratory tract of the horse.

How long does it take to work?

Many owners notice a difference in their horse’s behaviour within 2–4 weeks of consistent daily feeding at the loading dose. For best results, feed at the recommended levels every day without interruption, then reduce to the maintenance dose once improvement is seen.
